The Social Activities Department is responsible for education, science, culture, sport and research activities. It deals with governance and professional and developmental tasks related to these fields and is also involved in cultural heritage programmes and the implementation of public cultural commissions.
The local branches of the Union of Cultural Societies of Slovenia (ZKDS) and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) facilitate the activities of local cultural organisations and act as mediators in respect of state and municipal funding.
